The Manifesto

The Manifesto of the Pedagogy of Beauty represents the heart of this vision.

Born from a profound reflection on the educational value of beauty, it is the result of a collective work developed during the residential training event “The Pedagogy of Beauty”, organized by the Italian Center for Permanent Learning (CIAPE) in Spoleto on March 25 and 26, 2024.

The Manifesto was born from the intuition that beauty is not only an aesthetic concept, but a path through which lifelong learning can be promoted that favors social inclusion, active citizenship and holistic sustainability.

Breaking with the classical interpretation of beauty as an aesthetic judgment, the Manifesto invites us to recognize beauty as an inclusive process, which does not exclude but rather enhances differences and complexities.

The 9 fundamental principles that form the heart of the Manifesto propose a pedagogy capable of embracing uniqueness, care and empathy, transforming education into a process that is not limited to the cognitive dimension, but also involves the emotional and relational one. These principles are designed to be applied in formal, non-formal and informal contexts, adapting to educational programs, personal development projects and educational policies.

Relationships

Education is building authentic relationships. Learning occurs when there is harmony between body, brain and mind.

Listening

Feeling the originality of the other in the relationship. Learning flourishes in deep and respectful listening.

Emotion

Experience positive emotions while learning. Learning manifests itself in joy and emotional involvement.

Exploration

Become curious about external stimuli. Learning comes from discovery and openness to the new.

Inclusion

Co-feeling part of a process. Learning is collective participation, feeling welcomed into a harmonious whole.

Balance

Perceiving harmony through the senses. Learning is balance between mind, body and environment.

Uniqueness

Seeking your own originality. Learning is found in the recognition of your own unique identity.

Care

Protect and preserve beauty. Learning is stimulated by attention and care for details, spaces and people.

Ambassadors of beauty

Promoting truth and beauty. Educators spread beauty by being spokespeople for authentic and universal values.

The Pedagogy of Beauty is therefore not just a philosophy, but a concrete educational practice, which aims to transform daily teaching by stimulating the desire to learn, explore and cultivate deep and authentic relationships with the world around us.

The Manifesto is an open and dynamic invitation: anyone who recognizes the importance of these principles can join it and contribute to its evolution. Not a static text, but a vision in progress, ready to welcome new ideas and interpretations that can enrich the dialogue on education in beauty, understood as a life experience and personal growth. CIAPE invites educators, trainers and institutions to become protagonists of a new educational era, based on beauty as a driver of change and growth.

The Manifesto is the result of a reflection shared with 15 experts from all over Italy: trainers, educators, pedagogists, philosophers, anthropologists and “beauty hunters”, active in exploring the transformative potential of beauty in education and training.
